Lilly came into rescue early April in pretty bad shape: she had an awful case of sarcoptic mange, caused by mites that burrow under the skin causing intense itching, inflammation and infection. Thanks to wonderful Facebook supporters and her terrific vets in Astoria, Queens, Lilly is on her way back to health. She is middle-aged and was most probably used repeatedly for breeding, then thrown away when too old or sick to bear any more puppies. |

Here's Lilly after a few weeks of treatment! She looks so much better, doesn't she! Still a little thin in this picture, but she will be at her normal weight by early June. She's now ready for a new home but will need to continue medication for a while longer. Lilly will do best as an only pet. |

Lamby had a horrible case of demodectic mange, with sores and infection throughout her body. Demodectic mange is rarely a problem in healthy dogs. Cases this bad afflict dogs with immune systems compromised by disease or undiagnosed health problems. In Lamby's case, the culprit is her inability to properly absorb zinc. With daily supplements easily found in any drugstore, she will lead a normal life. Read about her condition and ongoing recovery on Lamby's Page. Lamby is turning into a real "pip." She is very puppy like, maybe too much of a pest for older dogs or cats, but if you like a grown dog crawling all over you like a jungle gym, then Lamby's your girl! And a very sweet girl she is. Lamby is finally ready for her forever home. Please contact us for info. |

Here's a turn-key dog, ready to go into a new home! Maggie is a 6 year old (big) bundle of love and joy. She is always happy to see people and her skills including couch-sitting and tail-wagging. She has a rock-hard schnozz that would put Jimmy Durante to shame (oops, our age is showing)! She's a stocky gal -- 60 pounds -- and a real headturner.
Maggie's owner was in poor health and unable to take care of both her and his male bully, with whom Maggie was fighting; for this reason we think Maggie should be an only dog. She is said to be cat-friendly, but we have not confirmed this yet. Email us for more info.

ADOPTED!!! This is George. He is a fantastic dog! But don't just take our word for it: here's what trainer Lisa Edwards has to say:
http://www.threedogstraining.com/2010/05/05/george-great-dog
When he came into rescue, he appeared never to have known what is was like to live in a house and to be loved. He was needy and clingy, couldn't figure out what stairs were, just hadn't known "the good life." With a few months of loving care, he has blossomed into a robust quintessential bully boy: funny, silly, lovable, active. He is a stray from Long Island, New York , whose age is unknown, probably around 4. George is deaf but has easily learned hand signals. He is quite the terrier: He hates cats and amuses himself in the yard by snooping around for errant chipmunks and assorted varmints! With careful introduction, George benefits from female companions who will tolerate his knockabout (but not mean) play style. George has a minor congenital condition called "dry eye" which is treated twice daily with a relatively inexpensive prescription ointment. For more information about George, please email us. The first step in adopting is filling out our Adoption Application. If you have specific questions about any of the dogs, we are happy to answer them prior to your filling out the entire application. Just email us. However, no dog will be adopted out without a completed application on file. Until we develop our online application, please use this version of our Adoption Application.
We regret that sometimes we are unable to reply to each and every application in as timely a fashion as we would like. As an all volunteer organization, our time is stretched "to the max." So please forgive us in advance.
We also require a home check, if not by one of our representatives, then by an experienced bull terrier owner or rescue person in your area. We do adopt beyond the area under certain circumstances. Contact us for more information.
Adoption fees range anywhere from $300 to $600 depending upon the age and health of the bully. Usually, the fees are at the bottom end of that scale.
We may not have a suitable dog for you immediately, in which case we'll keep your application on file and notify you when your "perfect" companion comes into rescue. We also share information about potential homes with other bull terrier rescue groups, so be sure to let us know if you've already submitted an application with another organization.
